Erik Bergam

EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation DVM, Dipl. ECVSMR, Dipl. ECAR, AssM LA-ECVDI, Certified ISELP and EGAS, MhBA.

Dr. Erik Bergman graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of Ghent, Belgium, in 1996. After graduating, he worked in the Department of Equine Reproduction and Obstetrics in Ghent, Belgium.
In 2000, Erik became one of the founding partners of Lingehoeve Diergeneeskunde, a mixed referral hospital. In 2003, he became a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR).

Over the years, his interest shifted towards equine orthopedics. He introduced equine
scintigraphy in the Netherlands and, in addition to his clinical work, he became responsible for advanced diagnostic imaging. In 2006, he developed a technique to image the equine stifle using contrast computed tomography (CT). In 2008, Erik was one of the first members to be certified by the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP).

In 2010, Dr. Bergman became an associate member of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (LA-ECVDI). In this role, he teaches imaging residents.
In 2015, Erik co-founded the Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre (SMDC), a center of
excellence for sport horses. At SMDC, a multidisciplinary team—including equine
veterinarians (specialists in orthopedics, internal medicine, and dentistry), physiotherapists, and farriers—examines and treats sport horses on a daily basis.

Erik has been responsible for diagnostics and orthopedic imaging of sport horses at several major equine events, including the World Equestrian Games in Caen (2014), the European
Championships (2015), and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016), Tokyo (2021), and
Paris (2024).

Since 2021, Erik has been Vice-President of ISELP and is responsible for teaching various
ISELP modules worldwide. In 2022, he became a Diplomate of the European College of
Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ECVSMR) and completed his MBA at
Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Katarzyna Trela

Dvm, Phd CEO Trelavets Clinic

Katarzyna Trela holds a Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine and is the author of a thesis on recurrent equine uveitis.
She studied at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) and the University of Barcelona. She worked at the SGGW Equine Clinic and served as a university instructor.

After completing her doctoral studies, she completed fellowships in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Munich and in Zurich, and defended her dissertation in 2012. She was then accepted for a clinical fellowship at the “Eye Care for Animals” clinic in the United States.
She worked and conducted research, including on corneal implants for humans, at the Department of Radiology and Ophthalmology at the University of California, Davis.
She currently focuses on research, treatment, and ophthalmic surgery.

Jan Trela

Dvm, Dipl. ACVS Trelavets Clinic

Jan Trela is a graduate of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). Immediately after graduation, he was accepted for an internship in the United States. He completed a one-year internship and then worked at one of the best and most modern equine clinics, the Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in California.

After a few years, he returned to Poland. He worked for a year at his alma mater as a surgeon and academic instructor. He then received a fellowship from the American Association of Veterinary Surgeons and, as the first surgeon from Poland, earned the opportunity to complete a residency in equine surgery at the prestigious University of California, Davis. In 2014, he completed his residency and accepted a position at UC Davis, continuing his clinical work and scientific research.

As one of only two veterinary surgeons in the U.S., he completed a fellowship at one of the leading centers for orthopedic surgery and sports medicine for humans at the University of Texas in Dallas. This collaboration was aimed at learning new surgical techniques and furthering his training in orthopedic surgery.

He regularly travels to and performs surgeries at clinics in the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the Middle East, as well as lectures at conferences and surgical meetings around the world.

For the past ten years, he has been providing specialized surgical services to veterinarians at the best clinics and veterinary hospitals in Poland.

  • The first and only Pole to hold the Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Dipl. ACVS) certification.
  • Team veterinarian for the Polish eventing team at numerous competitions, including the 2016 IORio, the 2017 European Championships in Strzegom, and the 2018 World Championships in Tryon.
  • Veterinarian for the International Equestrian Federation (FEI).

Three-time team veterinarian at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and Paris.

Tomasz Jasiński

Dvm, Phd Prof.

A veterinarian and specialist in veterinary radiology with many years of teaching and clinical experience. Author of scientific publications on diagnostic imaging in horses.

Michał Kaczorowski

Veterinary Surgeon Dvm/Phd FEI Official Veterinarian (OV), and Permitted Treating Veterinarian (PTV). Chairman of the Veterinary Committee of the Polish Equestrian Federation (PZJ).

​Specialist in equine sports medicine and orthopedics, providing veterinary care for National Teams across disciplines (Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, Driving, and Pony categories). A dedicated practitioner and lecturer, sharing expertise in equine sports medicine with students, veterinarians, physiotherapists, and farriers.
Author & Co-author of international scientific publications in clinical equine sports medicine, featured in prestigious journals such as: Equine Veterinary Journal (BEVA), Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, Biomedicines, MDPI, Medycyna Weterynaryjna, and Życie Weterynaryjne.

Advocate for „Science into Practice”: Organizer and co-organizer of numerous national and international scientific congresses and conferences.
Erasmus-Socrates alumnus; completed clinical internships in equine surgery and orthopedics at Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover and the University of Bern (Switzerland).
